Aftab ur Rehman Rana, the managing director of Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), and UN world tourism organization claims that PTDC has chosen 10 villages from all around the nation as prototype rural tourist destinations in Pakistan. He said that the PTDC had added these villages on map of the top tourism destinations maintained by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. He said in a statement that the United Nations World Tourism Organization and UN world tourism organization has also started the Global Best Tourism Village programme to highlight the contribution of tourism to the preservation of rural communities and the landscapes that surround them. “Rural tourism motivates local groups to revitalise and maintain their customs, crafts, traditional celebrations, architecture, and other distinctive practices”, he added.
He met with Andreas Ferrarese, the Italian ambassador to Pakistan, earlier this month to discuss potential tourism-related collaboration and to exchange experiences about Italy’s expanding tourism sector.
Additionally, he underlined the value of rural tourism in boosting regional, national, and local economies and placing rural sections of the nation on the road to growth.
