Travel Bloggers Explore Ancient Wonders at Gansu Silk Road International Tourism Conference 2025

While most first-time international travelers to China head to well-known cities like Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou, American travel blogger Zachary Iziah Smith chose a more unconventional destination—Gansu Province in northwestern China.

“I aim to capture the evolution along the ancient Silk Road through my lens,” shared the 32-year-old content creator. His journey through the historic Hexi Corridor offered a rich cultural experience, from savoring Sanpaotai (covered-bowl tea) to witnessing the vibrant hues of the Danxia landforms.

Smith was one of around 140 attendees from over 20 countries and regions who gathered for the 2025 Gansu Silk Road International Tourism Conference, held last week. The event brought together representatives from international tourism bodies, travel companies, and digital influencers to promote cultural exchange and global tourism cooperation.

Participants had the opportunity to explore the diverse natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Hexi Corridor—an essential route of the ancient Silk Road that continues to shape modern tourism development in the region.

Among the attendees was Malaysian blogger Pavithra Ramadas, who embraced traditional Chinese culture by tasting hand-pulled noodles, wearing Hanfu (traditional Chinese clothing), and touring the world-famous Mogao Grottoes.

The conference underscored Gansu’s commitment to promoting sustainable and experience-driven tourism, while highlighting the province’s growing appeal to global travelers seeking authentic and immersive journeys.
