In a remarkable celebration of World Heritage Day, the College of Tourism & Hotel Management (COTHM), in collaboration with the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), organized an exclusive and fully guided Heritage Walk for its students at the historic Lahore Fort. The event was a perfect blend of education, culture, and entertainment, designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the rich historical legacy embedded in the heart of Lahore.
The heritage walk was not just a simple tour — it was a comprehensive and insightful journey into the past, led by expert guides from WCLA who narrated the fascinating stories, architectural marvels, and cultural significance of the various structures within Lahore Fort. From the majestic Sheesh Mahal to the vibrant Diwan-e-Aam, and from the royal kitchens to the secret passageways, students had the opportunity to explore every corner of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The participants were immersed in centuries of history, learning about the Mughal emperors, the architectural styles of different eras, and the socio-political importance of the fort through the ages. The experience brought textbooks to life and gave students a chance to see firsthand what they had only read about in classrooms.
Not only was the tour rich in historical knowledge, but it also offered moments of pure delight and curiosity as students marveled at the grandeur and mystery of the ancient structures. The tour was thoroughly enjoyed by all and was deemed a worthy experience — one that combined entertainment with education in the most impactful way.
Fraaz Mahmud Kasuri, Director of Media and Marketing at COTHM, also had the opportunity to meet and interview a group of Sikh visitors who were touring the Lahore Fort on the same day. During the heartfelt conversation, the Sikh community members expressed their deep emotions and joy upon visiting the historic heritage sites of Pakistan, which hold immense spiritual and cultural significance for them. They praised the warm hospitality and kind-hearted nature of the Pakistani people, sharing that their experience had been overwhelmingly positive and spiritually fulfilling.
COTHM has always believed in expanding the horizons of its students beyond the confines of traditional learning. This initiative once again reinforced the institute’s commitment to providing precious opportunities for growth, exploration, and meaningful engagement with culture and heritage.
By marking World Heritage Day with such an immersive activity, COTHM not only paid tribute to the country’s glorious past but also instilled a deep sense of appreciation and responsibility among its students to protect and promote Pakistan’s heritage for future generations.
