Aimed to brief students about advancement in field and chances to enhance their qualifications through UK based trainings, the Department of Food, Nutrition, and Safety Sciences (DFNSS) of the College of Tourism and Hotel Management (COTHM) hosted an interactive session with Human Nutrition & Dietetics students at the University of Home Economics (UHE) Department of Nutrition & Health Promotion.
The session lasted nearly two hours and was designed to provide students with hands-on training and equip them with practical skills necessary for their career growth.
While interacting with students, COTHM faculty member Kalsoom Riaz stated that students should be made aware of opportunities to enhance their education and skills so that they can take advantage of them and obtain international certifications that may be beneficial for their career growth. She further said that this field has good potential to grow and the trainings accredited by the UK will not only make students aware of new trends and technologies in the field but will also help food safety and nutrition practitioners to start an international career.
Areena Asif, another faculty member from COTHM, while talking to students, highlighted the importance of food safety and said that it is a field having a bright future. She asked students never to compromise on food quality and standards. You are the warriors who will fight to keep food quality in their field and educate people about the nutritional values of food, Asif added.
It is your responsibility to ensure the nutritional value of food, Asif further said, adding that the quality check on the nutritional value of food from your side will also reduce the rush in hospitals because many diseases are caused by poor food quality and low nutritional values.
The session attracted a massive number of students and teachers. At the end of the session, the students also asked various questions about further studies and career advancement in the field.
Later, the UHE Department of Nutrition & Health Promotion management thanked and appreciated the COTHM Department of Food, Nutrition, & Safety Sciences faculty and staff members for the session. They stated that raising awareness about these certifications and international trainings will not only benefit students wishing to become Internationally Certified, but will also aid in building a successful career.
