Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) froze 53 bank accounts of Pakistan International Airlines on Tuesday after the FBR came to know that PIA was a defaulter of Rs26 billion.
According to the reports by national media outlets, PIA had not paid federal excise duty on tickets for since December 2020 and the total current payable amount is Rs26 billion.
Soon after the seizure of the bank accounts, PIA CEO Arshad Malik met with FBR Chairman Dr Muhammad Ashfaq for the restoration of the PIA account.
FBR restored the account of national carrier after the CEO, PIA assured the chairman FBR that PIA would continue to pay the arrears despite its financial challenges.
