WCLA to organize Shahi Dangal

 

The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), along with local businessmen, traders and wrestlers, will organize a Shahi Dangal in which famous wrestlers of the country will participate at Mochi Gate Park Lahore at 5 pm on Sunday, September 04, 2022.

According to the custom, a day before the competition, the wrestlers will be introduced, a procession will be made in chariots, and drums will be played.

In the matches to be held on Sunday, Malu wrestler will face Mohsin Mochi wrestler Rustam Gujra. Heera Baloch wrestler against Umar wrestler Jardanwala, Goonga wrestler against Qazi Mehboob wrestler Multan, Arshad Pathan vs. Usman Tobewala, Rustam Toba Tek Singh, Mamay wrestler vs. Abdul Rehman Gujranwala, Rashid Gujjar vs. Qurban Kahanahwala. Also, Mithu Pehlwan will face Wasim Gadhi. Apart from this, there will be muscle boat competition and open boat competition.

Director General of WCLA Authority Kamran Lashari said that the arenas are the landmark of old Lahore. The authority is paying full attention to this sport and after a long period of time these arenas are being repopulated with the support and interest of local businessmen.

“The Walled City Authority will continue to work to preserve the culture of the city of Lahore and this will be a yearly event”, Lashari said.

Dangal is an old traditional sport that was popular among the masses.  There were 600 Akharas in Lahore and popularity of this game can be judged by this fact. Later almost 20 years ago this traditional wrestling got vanished away from old Lahore and moved to other places in Punjab.
